Computer Maintenance and Repair
Why it is important to take care of your personal computer!
Like a car, a computer has a lot of moving parts, from the fans to the hard drives, cd-roms etc. These parts can and do wear out over time. If you follow the steps listed below it will help prolong the life of your trusty desktop computer and its internal parts.
Opening the case of the computer and cleaning the fans and replacing loud and noisy fans
I know it sounds like a scary thing...open my own computer case, NO WAY. In most cases it is perfectly safe to do this yourself. We do not recomend opening the case of the computer if it is still under warranty from the manufacturer, as this could void the warranty. If you are not sure please give us a call and we can help you find out!
Please shut down your computer and remove the power cable, mouse, keyboard, and monitor connections before you proceed!
By removing the side panel of the computer case, this will expose all the electronics of the computer. The hard drive, cd/dvd roms, memory, motherboard and processor. ***PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH THESE***, what we want to do is just slip the side panel off and try our best to clean out the case fans and around the area of the motherboard. You should be able to take a low powered vacumm hose and use it to clean the case fans and any other areas that you notice have a build up of dust, hairs, spider webs etc. By doing this you reduce the heat created inside the computer case, allowing the air to flow better. This, in turn, will help the components like memory, processor and hard drive run better and last longer. Clean the back of the computer of any debris as well. This is the area that the mouse and keyboard plug into. A cleaning like this can be done by you, or give us a call and we can come over and show you how to do this type of cleaning so next time you can do it yourself! We recommend this be done once a month!

Here are a few tips for maintaining your computer:
- Keep your desktop computer OFF THE FLOOR! By doing this you keep it from collecting dust and animal hair.
- Try not to drink or eat around you computer, laptop or desktop. I know this one is hard, but if you do eat and drink around your computer, be careful!!
- Every once in a awhile, take a can of compressed air and clean out your keyboard, mouse and computer case.
- Every few days take a Lysol wipe, or any kind of sanitary wipe, and clean down your keyboard and mouse. This will help reduce germ and dust build-up.
- Make sure you consult your owner's manual when cleaning your monitor surface. Different monitor surfaces require different cleaning methods.
